Reading Recovery in the Kimberley
In 2005, Trish met Dame Professor Marie Clay (pictured below) about an implementation of Reading Recovery in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. In 2006, Trish and Dr Janet Scull from the University of Melbourne, planned, implemented and trialled Reading Recovery in the Kimberley.
The continued successes of Reading Recovery has supported the literacy learning needs of over 500 Indigenous and non-Indigenous children in Catholic, State and Aboriginal Independent Community Schools across the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Trish’s interest in teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students led to her Masters by research where she investigated the impact of teacher scaffolding of literate discourse with Indigenous multilingual students. Trish presented the results and findings of this research in 2009 in London and continues to explore and discuss literacy learning for multilingual and culturally diverse students.

Dear Trish
I am a Reading Recovery tutor now working at Charles Sturt University teaching pre service teachers in Language and Reading. I came across your thesis in a search for current literature on Teaching Indigenous students but unfortunately couldn’t access it. Could you share a copy with me so I could use your learning with the students as what you have written sounds fantastic?
Best wishes
Rhonda
